From Idea to Eco-Product: The Story Behind Our Nettle Towel Launch

At Ekorganix, we don’t launch products just to fill shelves. Every piece we create is rooted in intention, transparency, and a deep respect for natural materials. Our latest release—the nettle-cotton towel—is no exception.

This is the story of how one idea turned into a tangible, sustainable product we’re proud to share with the world.

The Spark: A Forgotten Fibre Worth Remembering

It started with a question: Could we revive a powerful, ancient plant fibre and turn it into something modern, useful, and beautiful?

While researching low-impact textiles, nettle fibre kept appearing. Historically used for clothing and rope, nettle is strong, breathable, and naturally antibacterial. But it’s also underutilised, despite its incredible eco credentials:

  • Grows wild with little to no irrigation
  • Requires no pesticides or fertilisers
  • Yields strong, hollow fibres ideal for absorbency
  • Fully biodegradable

We knew immediately—we had to bring nettle back into the spotlight.

Finding the Right Partner: Lithuania’s Sustainable Textile Experts

To bring our vision to life, we partnered with a small-scale Lithuanian manufacturer known for their expertise in natural fibre weaving, ethical production practices, and generations of craftsmanship.

Why Lithuania?

  • Rich traditions in flax and nettle processing
  • Access to high-quality European-grown nettle and cotton
  • Transparent supply chains
  • EU labour and environmental standards

Our supplier understood our vision and shared our passion for zero-waste design and natural durability. Together, we developed the ideal blend: 70% organic cotton and 30% wild nettle fibre, designed for maximum softness, strength, and sustainability.

The Design Process: Natural, Neutral, and Useful

We wanted this towel to do more than dry you off. It had to:

  • Perform: Be absorbent, fast-drying, and durable
  • Age beautifully: Soften over time without losing shape
  • Fit anywhere: From minimalist bathrooms to travel backpacks
  • Tread lightly: Leave no trace at the end of its life

With these goals in mind, we chose a plain weave for lightness and airflow, neutral colours free from harsh dyes, and plastic-free packaging made from recycled kraft paper.

Why Nettle Towels? Because You Deserve Better Basics

We believe your towel should reflect your values—natural, ethical, and made to last. Nettle towels are:

  • Naturally antibacterial and odour-resistant
  • Lightweight yet durable
  • Biodegradable at end of life
  • Free from microplastics
  • Kind to your skin and the planet

And because they dry faster than thick cotton towels, they also use less energy to wash and dry.

Final Thoughts: The Towel That Speaks Your Values

From idea to launch, this towel represents everything Ekorganix stands for:

  • Rediscovery of forgotten natural materials
  • Partnerships with ethical European artisans
  • Functional beauty with purpose
  • Sustainability that doesn’t sacrifice comfort

Our nettle-cotton towel is more than a product. It’s a story woven with purpose—from Lithuanian roots to your eco-conscious home.
